Reliable Heat Source for Cold Weather Adventures
I’ve been using the Mr. Heater Buddy Flex Heater for a few months now, and it has exceeded my expectations in every way. Whether I’m out camping, in the garage, or just trying to warm up a chilly room, this heater delivers quick, even heat and keeps the space comfortable. The adjustable 8,000–11,000 BTU output makes it versatile for different situations, and I love the 180° design—it really helps the heat spread out efficiently. It’s compact but powerful, and I appreciate that it has important safety features like the tip-over shutoff and oxygen depletion sensor, especially for indoor use.Set-up is simple, and it works great with both 1 lb and 20 lb propane tanks using the right attachments. Overall, it’s a durable, dependable heater that I’d highly recommend for anyone who needs portable warmth during the colder months.

Great for hunting and ice fishing
Couldn't be happier. Kept me warm all last hunting season and ice fishing season. My girlfriend got me the cooler attachment to go with it and it cooked my lunches perfectly so I never had to leave the woods or ice to eat a warm meal! Can't beat that.

Works just as good as the other Mr Buddy heaters
Works just as well as the other heaters. It might not be quite as efficient or have as high or low of BTU as the other models, but it fits a need and has a purpose. I've had no issues lighting it or working the dials after some practice. This does operate a little differently from other Mr Buddy heaters. Picked this up when it was in sale and got the burner also. If I ever need a heater and a cooker at the same in the same package, like in an emergency power loss, this bundle will come in handy.

Good, but some things to know...
First things first - this is replacing my Big Buddy, which gave me years of service but finally gave up the ghost. I found though that for my purposes the Big Buddy almost threw out TOO much heat on high, but not quite enough on medium.I gravitated to the Flex because it's a next generation product, and the temperature control allows for more variation. I also like the 180 degree heating area, something I had trouble accomplishing with the Big Buddy without setting it to high, and even then the angle was 45 degrees tops. This is a much more graceful product. The unit is built to be narrow instead of broad, which for me makes it a little easier to position. I appreciate the electronic ignition and the wind guard around the pilot. It's a bit fussy to get the battery for the ignition installed, and it does require a screwdriver. The instructions don't go into any detail on any of this, but it is fairly intuitive. The control knob is similarly fussy - it depresses well enough to get the pilot lit, but doesn't turn smoothly to go from pilot to low/high.Now then. Know up front that this drains a 1 lb bottle VERY quickly, especially on high. If you get a couple of hours out of a bottle then you're doing well. It is also a single-bottle setup. For sustained use, definitely get a coupling hose onto a 20 lb tank, and DEFINITELY get a fuel filter. Moreover, when shutting it down, turn the gas off at the tank then turn the unit off. You do NOT want propane sitting in the hose.It sounds like I'm criticizing the heck out of this thing, but in all actuality none of these are dealbreakers. It throws out heat quite well, and I'd say it's a more gentle heat than the Big Buddy. In my use I couldn't hear ANY noise outside of the normal flame sound (think gas grill...). While there's a great range (180 degrees...), owing to the lack of the Big Buddy-stye fan the direction is more Up than Out. Main takeaway there is that if this is on the ground, then great. If it's on a table, the use of a small clip-on fan mounted to the body of the unit to direct heat is advised. Note though that if you use a fan, the 180 degree range gets reduced. It's made...well, it's made very well. Love the integrated handle, and it's not overly heavy. Also love the capability of attaching a stove to this too - it does make camping a bit easier when it's chilly. I do wonder about the little "storage compartment" on the side, as it's not very large and about all it can hold is the operating manual (if that). But since my Big Buddy didn't have a storage compartment anyway, I can't say that I care about this one.One last critique - there isn't a cover for the tank compartment. Not really a sin, but something to be aware of if you're interested in aesthetics.I have to say though, the criticisms do NOT outweigh the advantages of this item. It brings up the space to a gentle heat, instead of force blasting an inferno through it. Sure it may take a bit longer to warm that space, but that time results in a more comfortable environment. I really like this item.

Great camp heater
I bought this unit to heat a 10x14 canvas tent for winter camping. The very first time I used it, the outside air temperatures dropped well below freezing. I was extremely pleased with the heat this thing put out. Even with the freezing temperatures, it could keep the inside of the tent toasty enough that we had to turn it down. I also really like the safety features and ability to connect to a larger propane tank with a long hose.

Pilot light?
Not used very often, not even a year old really. And the pilot light won't stay lit. There's no easy way to access the thermal generator, though I can see it's not coated in carbon which would cause this problem. I used to rebuild gas water heaters and gas pool heaters... There's no simple way to run a millivolt loop check or otherwise do simple service on this heater.Different bottles (1lb and 20lbs). Different gas providers. Different opening the valve on the 20lb bottles slowly. Pilot light only remains lit while the knob is depressed. As an fyi- it wasn't clear at point of purchase that the cooktop will only work when attached to the heater. Making you carry the heater even in the summer when camping.
